Nico Williams
Winner, 2019
11/0 Delica beads
7.25 x 3.5 x .25 in (18.4 x 8.9 x .6 cm)

Winner, made of Delicas or Japanese glass seed beads, is the prototype for a series of works on exhibit currently at the Musée d’art contemporain (Montréal). Williams mimetically reproduces a range of commercial objects that are tied to young adult/youth culture, including scratch lottery cards—items one might pick up at their local depanneur in Montréal, where Williams now lives.

Williams’ reproduction of the true-to-life-size bingo and scratch cards take an even larger scale—multiple bingo cards in a row—at the Musée d’art contemporain, Montreal. The bingo cards are displayed on the wall, where they are draped over plexiglass supports in the shape and size of a tallboy beer can.
